Face of the Earth, Heart of the Sky is a testimonial novel of the Guatemalan civil war of the 1980s that movingly relates the victimization of the indigenous peoples by the National Army and the guerrillas. Weaving together voices from the political right and the left, the narrative does not offer solutions but exposes the ways in which the power elites on both sides use the masses to wage their wars.
