Translations in English of Hispanic Literature in the 21st-Century US (TrEHLUS-21) is a digital platform created and coordinated by the Observatory of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures in the United States of the Instituto Cervantes at Harvard University, aims to provide the maximum bibliographic information possible on translations of Hispanic literature published or distributed in the U.S. since the beginning of the 21st century.
The references collected for this database include English versions of works originally produced in Spanish from any Spanish-speaking country, period or literary genre, and provide the following information: original title of both the work and its translation(s), author and country of origin, translator(s) (with their contact information, when available), literary genre, the publishers of the original work and of the translation(s), date and place of publication, ISBNs and bibliographic references of originals and translations, front cover of the translation(s), a brief summary of the content, and information about reviews or academic articles on the work. The majority of the bibliographic information available was obtained via the online library catalogue WorldCat.
Purpose:
TrEHLUS-21 aims to offer a well-documented source useful to researchers, editors, and translators interested in analyzing or better understanding the English translation and reception of works from Spanish-speaking countries in the context of the 21st-century United States. In addition to providing specific facts about the texts, TrEHLUS-21 will contribute to a general overview of Hispanic literature in English versions, revealing e.g. which authors, works and/or Hispanic countries are most translated in the U.S. and which authors/works would be valuable to translate so they can be known by the American public.

Search:
The platform allows users to search across all the bibliographic fields mentioned above or individually. Users, thus, will have the option to filter the results by any of these fields (year of publication, authors’ name, literary genre, translators’ name, etc.).
Updating the Platform:
This is a dynamic database, which will be regularly updated and improved upon over time, both with the help of the project participants and by users who wish to submit suggestions, corrections or new information through the contact form available on the platform. All collaboration is welcome.
